Foster Care Campaign

The Foster Care Campaign (FCC) seeks to improve the lives, rights, and opportunities of the 400 youth living in DC foster care group homes and independent living programs. Led by a teen-adult team (including several foster youth) the FCC works to:

  • Pass and monitor group home regulations

  • Train more than 300 foster youth on life skills and rights through group home workshops and Leadership Institutes

  • Build the leadership of foster youth through staff positions

  • Facilitate system change through issue campaigns

  • Advocate for policy change through City Council testimony and work with Child and Family Services Agency

Current Work

The Foster Care Campaign recently held its second annual Leadership Institute for foster youth in August 2006. FCC is also developing an allowance campaign for teens and creating advocacy initiatives to affect long term system change. The FCC is also working in partnership with DC Action for Children to develop and pass legislation to create a independent DC Child Welfare Ombudsman.
