End of Summer 09 PHASE Updates!

Even though the teen staff is on break for a while longer, YWP is still excited about all that the PHASE staff accomplished this summer. From trainings to advocacy work to research, these young women are doing all that they can to improve the reproductive health of teens in DC.

Read on to check out just a sampling of all that they’ve done!

PHASE’s chief mission this summer was to become expert trainers. To start this process, they received a wealth of knowledge about themselves, their bodies, their reproductive health and one another. But our teens know it’s better to give than to receive (at least sometimes). So they took things a step further, and went out to train in the community! PHASE peer educators trained teens at DC Parks and Recreation, Metro TeenAids, and their colleagues right here at YWP, working on the Foster Care Campaign. The PHASE staff lists this as their biggest accomplishment, and trainees agree! Metro Teen AIDS said

the workshop that you did for our group yesterday is still being talked about this morning – they loved it! And the (adult) staff had a great time as well!”

YWP’s staff  counts these trainings as their biggest accomplishment this summer but they worked on so much more! Some of the projects they’ll be continuing this fall include:

  • A contraception affordability and access campaign
  • More trainings in the community
  • Visits to investigate whether clinics are “teen friendly”

Stay tuned for more on what the PHASE team is up to as the year progresses. These young women have huge aspirations, and we can’t wait to see where they take us!
