PHASE Teen Staff Bios

Leslie Cameron is a senior at Woodrow Wilson Senior High School. She enjoys reading, playing basketball, sudoku and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite subjects in school are history, psychology, and biology.
Working with the Young Women's Project and their Peer Health and Sexuality Education program has allowed Leslie to become stronger as a young woman. She enjoys learning about her body and how to care for it and especially likes sharing what she has learned with her peers. The things learned in PHASE such as HIV/AIDS, Body Image, STI's and STD's, Pregnancy, etc. are all topics that youth need to know because these are lessons that a person uses and applies to themselves all through their life. This is the stuff that really matters. Working with PHASE has also strengthened her leadership and communication skills. Leslie feels more confident when talking about touchy topics like sex because she knows that it is a normal part of life.
When she graduates from high school in 2010, Leslie will be going to college to study cultural anthropology.
Nia Caracciolo is an Honor Roll student at César Chávez Public Charter Schools for Public Policy. She is in the 11th grade and refers to high school as the greatest experience of her life so far. She has been with the Young Women’s Project (YWP) for a year and the experience with YWP has that has impacted her life deeply. During the summer, she discovered the important facts about reproductive health, the rate of the HIV/AIDS and STI/STDs.
Bryerra Moore, also known as Bree, attends Calvin Coolidge Senior High School. She is in the 11th grade and will be graduating in 2011. Bree has been working with the Young Women’s Project (YWP) for about a year and has been with the Peer Health and Sexual Education (PHASE) program for 4 months. She also participated in Teen Women in Action (TWA). In PHASE she participated in the condom availability campaign. Bree believes that being in YWP has made her a better person and the information she has learned is very helpful and useful when it comes to Healthy and Unhealthy Relations, Pregnancy, Self Care, Female and Male Anatomy and etc. because she is actually able to educate others on what she knows.
In her spare time Bree likes to hang out with her friends and family. She also likes to sing, dance, act and model. In the future Bree either wants to be a Pre-K teacher or a lawyer but She is not sure yet. She also really hopes to be a great mother and be able to provide for her daughter, herself and her family.
Charnisa Royster is16 years old and attends Calvin Coolidge Senior High School. She is in the 11th grade, and will be graduating in 2011. She has been apart of the Young Women’s Project (YWP) for a year now and has participated in the PHASE’s Condom Availability Campaign, making sure that every teen knows that there are condoms available no matter how old you are and aren’t afraid of asking them. This summer she researched the teen friendly clinics and all the clinics that were available to teens. She is passionate to also teach people her knowledge on Sexual Response System and every thing else that she has been trained in. Charnisa also feels that it is her responsibility make sure the DC rates of HIV, STI’S and Teen Pregnancy are lowered.
She likes spending time with her friends or just in the house sleeping or eating Chipotle. In the future she sees herself owning her own funeral home. She plans on being a mortician, and hopes to get married and to have two kids. If her funeral service business doesn’t go the way she wants it to she plans on working with the FBI or as a forensic science photographer.
